GLASGOW'S speedway team Ashfield Giants, formed in March 1949, was soon attracting regular crowds of 20,000-plus to their trim stadium in Springburn. Here's some action from the track in 1951.

Ashfield Giants were only in existence for a few years and were not, "Glasgow's speedway team." That honour belongs to Glasgow Tigers.

I used to go to the Ahfield track in the fifties with my mother. So the photo here rings true with me. I loved the speedway and so did my mother, who was picked for the honour of presenting the trophy to the champion. I seem to remember that his name was Kenly Britain. I wonder if anyone knows of him or has any more old photos of the races from this time.

I REMEMBER GOING TO THE ASHFIELD SPEEDWAY WITH MY COUSIN I THINK IT WAS ON TUESDAY NIGHTS. WE KNITTED BLUE AND WHITE SCARVES AND HATSO WEAR TO THE SPEEDWAY.
